Fahari Off the Grid is located in Kizimkazi Mkunguni at the southern tip of Zanzibar. This sleepy fishing village is one of the hidden gems of Zanzibar - away from the major tourist hotspots.
OVERVIEW
Fahari Off the Grid features Jamaican-fusion cuisine, utilizing ingredients primarily sourced in Zanzibar and wider Tanzania. The al fresco dining area is located under two 250-year old baobab trees. Our operations are rooted in sustainability from our onsite composting facility, evapotranspiration toilets, greywater reuse and upcycled furniture and decor.
AMBIENCE
Our decor is largely landscaping using tropical or indigenous plants, which create an intimate setting and allow our guests to get immersed in nature. Our kitchen was formerly a shipping container and the tables in the main dining are made from used shipping pallets. Other pieces were constructed from discarded car tyres (5 from my own vehicle). The dining area features 2 baobab trees, which provide shade/cooling as well as ingredients that are featured throughout our menus. Discarded shells from the baobab fruit have been repurposed as lighting fixtures. Textiles for cushions and staff uniforms are from secondhand denim.
