PROFILE
The Blue Elephant Restaurant Bangkok is located in an elegant early 1900s colonial building, dwarfed by a Skytrain station and several tall modern buildings, but the antiquated cream-yellow mansion with blue and white trim Colonial-era house on the Sathorn Road right allow diners to time travel and enjoy the best of Thailand’s gastronomy. The exquisite setting comprises of three floors. The main dining room is divided into two and decorated by intricate ornamental wood and crown mouldings on the ceiling, crisp white tablecloths embroidered with blue elephants where candles on the tables enhance dim lighting expressing the original beauty of a grand colonial house.

The century-old Bangkok mansion housing the Blue Elephant is listed by Thailand’s Fine Arts Department. The luxurious ambience at restaurant is unique with a casual but sophisticated and luxurious setting. A hint of chic can be experienced upstairs at the Blue Bar where full dinner may be enjoyed with cocktails and excellent aperitif, up another flight of stairs is one of the country’s most prestigious cooking schools.

The staff were attentive and knowledgeable about all the Thai dishes offered. The amiable and pleasant staff can be relied on to offer useful suggestions and attend all requests in an efficient manner.
FOOD
The menu is a palette of royal cuisine from the past, present and future of Thailand’s gastronomic culture broken into three categories, each including starters, soups, and mains. Seafood and meat are served entirely without bones or shells, fruits and vegetables without stems or pits. Some favorites are the Blue Elephant Phad Thai, noodle with crab and vegetables and the unforgettable grilled river prawns with Royal Project’s purple eggplant salad with lime juice and chili dressing. The dishes can be spicy but the spice level is noted by the number of elephants displayed in the menu. For dessert, the Durian Cheese Cake is a must-try.
