Lucky House Cantonese private kitchen is a private dining destination run by Chef Sam Wong, a self-taught home cook and a fishing enthusiast located at 267 Upper East Coast Road within a terrace house and perhaps the most famous of all private dining in Singapore. It used to be a sort of secret supper club exclusively popular through word-of-mouth but now the previous 2 months advanced reservations requirement has now burgeoned to a 3-4 month-long waitlist. You are also welcome to bring your own wine as there is no corkage here.

AMBIENCE
Chef Sam Wong’s home consists of two air-conditioned room where the small room can sit up about 16 guests while the small can take around 8-10 pax. It feels really comfortably homely to dine here
SERVICE
Chef Wong is very friendly but there are serious lapses between each course. Maybe is because kitchen lacks proper staffing.
FOOD
The chef boast of organic vegetables garden beside his kitchen though he still visits the market to meet up guests’ demand. Spices and dessert are hand-grinded using stone meal; fresh ingredients are used therefore menu changes daily. The Food Priced is S$80 net per pax for the 8-course dishes. The chef’s illustration of the dishes is one which minimal seasoning is used with a little or no salt to retain the original flavours of the dishes. Dishes include the 11 hours Charcoal Boiled Pork Shoulder with Arrow Root and Peanut Soup without seasoning and pepper which brings a very clear and refreshing flavour.
The delicious steamed egg with la la and crab roe whose flavour depends wholly on the seafood as there are no extraneous seasoning. Cantonese-style braised sea cucumber and mushrooms with oyster essence made from boiling down fried dried oysters; and prawns steamed with aged chye poh. The yellow chicken is another delicacy, made with a simple homely dish with a 3 to 4-month old chicken drizzled with freshly fried shallot. Tasty fried organic vegetables without much seasoning are succulent. For desserts, expect home-style fare like the charcoal-fired red bean soup with orange peel.

SUMMARY
The familiar, homely environment makes the dining experience unique and unforgettable. While it’s impossible to get fine dining restaurant level service or Michelin food standards, the home cooked fares, flavours is truly what you are paying for. For those driving, the parking area can only accommodate three cars. Others have to park around Evergreen Gardens private estate.
